With no points on offer at the weekend, the focus turned to the start of the cross country season.

The first regular fixture of the season took place over at a fairly muddy Acklam. In the women’s race, which included the over 65 men, Viv Hardwick completed the two-lap 5.8K distance in 27:55 along with Karen Garfield (30:54), Claire Norman (32:20), Tracy Plaskitt (33:18), Sue New (34:38), Lisa Reeve (38:45), Ashleigh Atkinson (39:04), Rachel Grayson (41:47). In the men’s event, covering 10K over four laps, Marc Ellis finished in 39:11 followed by Dave Jones (40:29), Neil Gooding (43:20), Rob Dent (45:25), Rob Gilham (49:42), Graham Park (50:44), Simon Rek (50:47), David Ledgerwood (55:11) and Brian Cowton (58:26).

Down in Wales at the Cardiff half marathon, Gareth Kyle completed the 13.1 miles around the Welsh capital in 1:34:00 (PB) along with Julie Russell (1:49:55), Charlotte Kyle (2:46:33) and Dawn Johnston (2:46:35).

Four headed over to the Lake District for the Coniston Trail 15K race, held around the lake itself. Dawn Richardson completed the off road route in 1:17:46 (and the second female finisher overall) followed by Adrian Gooding (1:23:49), Katherine Hackett (1:24:54) and Rebecca Howard (1:25:29).

At the Penshaw 10K, which took in a route uphill to the monument and back down again, Wendy Colling finished in 1:07:07 (and third in her age category), Mark Colling (1:13:49), Susan Rigg (1:42:44), Chris Parsons (1:45:58) and Fiona Dixon (1:45:59).

At the Swinsty Reservoir 10K held near Harrogate, Dawn Raper completed the flat circuit of the reservoir in 1:26:38 along with Wendy Thompson in 1:26:49.

In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dave Jones finished at South Park in 18:13 followed by Stuart Hardcastle (22:08), Adrian Cottam (22:19), Mike Watson (23:28), Gary Read (23:58), Rob Gillham (24:02), Stuart Masterman (24:15), Peter Rowley (24:24), Viv Hardwick (24:36), Fred Tennant (24:36), Paul Reid (25:34), Helen Clarke (26:37), Ian Hart (26:39), Grainne Duffy (26:51), Lisa Bowerbank (27:39), Martin Mcgregor (28:31), Mark Trowles (28:46), Adele Huntley (28:52), Chris Land (29:03), Michelle Scruby (29:42), Michael King (29:57), Wendy Noble (30:32), Rachel Maddison (32:20), Paul Ryan (33:05), Kelly Smith (33:11), Peter Cowan (35:42), Helen Cowan (36:43), Linda Gossage (40:01), Naomi Dixon (40:53) and Andy Walker (45:36).

At Sedgefield, Andrew Vernon finished in 22:05 along with Phil Rutter (22:18), Adrian Colbourne (23:00), Gill Colling (27:29), Richard Payne (28:56), Mark Blewitt (29:40), Jo Meynell (30:54) and Sally Singleton (31:17), while at Durham, Sally Watson and Rebecca Dodd ran there in 35:02 and 36:46 respectively. At Hackworth, Wendy Colling finished in 24:34 followed by April Corbett (27:32), Mark Colling (27:33) and Sandra Cass (27:38). Stephen Moore did the Albert Park run in 26:11, Anneli Mackenzie Brown ran at Tees Barrage in 29:25, while at Herrington Park, Paul Dalton and Helen Spaven finished there in 18:26 and 42:11 respectively. Further afield, Tom and Claire Chapman did the run at Letchworth in 20:59 and 27:07 respectively, while David Stewart ran at Bushy in 30:18.
