Most Quakers headed just down the road in search of points while the cross country season officially got underway.

At the British Masters 10K track championships held up at Monkton, Michael Joyeux completed the 25 laps of the track in 34:25 along with Brian Martin in 39:21, to take the gold medal for the North East Masters and silver for the British Masters.

The largest black and white turnout was at a fairly warm Snape 10K, which doubled up as both a league and championship race. Paul Dalton completed the multi-terrain route in third place overall in 38:06 followed by Darren Wright (42:03 and in tenth place overall), Billy Harris (42:32), Rob Dent (43:16), Mike Brown (43:49), Rebecca Howard (44:07 and the first female finisher), Katherine Hackett (44:20 and the second female finisher), Brian McLaren (46:44), Rob Gillham (47:37), Ed Griffiths (47:42), Phil Clarke (50:16 and first in his age category), Graham Park (50:22), Wendy Colling (52:07), Iain Clyde (52:53), Julie Whinn (53:10), Viv Hardwick (53:50), Mark Colling (54:10), Caroline Brown (54:40), Emily Beaumont (54:48), Ian Scott (55:16), Karen Garfield (55:27), Helen Clark (55:32), Sandra Cass (56:14), David Ledgerwood (59:00), Kathryn Plant (59:39), Claire Norman (1:02:15), Helen   Whiting (1:04:47), Bex Stirland (1:06:05), Sue New (1:09:17) and Alison Hardwick (1:10:49). In the 5K race taking place at the same time, Janet Bowlby finished in 30:41.

The second of the weekend’s championship races had taken place at Thirsk, the cross country relays, where each runner completed a 2 mile lap of the field. In the women’s event, the trio of Sue New, Gilly Cowton and Kathryn Hackett finished in 56:03 along with Alison Hardwick, Kay Bell and Emma Joyeux in 1:04:47. In the men’s event, the team of Rob Gillham, David Ledgerwood, Rob Dent and Brian Martin finished in 1:01:31 along with Brian Cowton, Viv Hardwick, Dave Jones and Graham Park in 1:02:52.

Two runners headed to RAF Spadeadam for the half marathon being held in the grounds of the base. Susan Rigg completed the multi-terrain route in 3:00:46 just ahead of Fiona Dixon in 3:01:42.

Annette Clarke, Charlie Bogg and Dave Thompson were out in Dalby Forest for the Forest and Moors race, a 26 mile route raising funds for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue; the three all finishing together in 5 hours 45 minutes.

April Corbett was the sole Quaker at the Coxhoe 10K trail run, coming home first in her age category in a time of 47:39.

At the Sheffield 10K, Kelly Smith completed the undulating route around the city in 1:03:23 along with Carol Penney in 1:05:33.

Down near York, Peter Rowley did the Sutton Park 10K, finishing the flat multi-terrain route in 55:11.

Midweek had seen the sixth race in the Darlington 5K Trail series, held around the Baydale Beck. Karen Garfield completed the one lap route in 27:46 along with Jeff Marriott (28:49), Ashleigh Atkinson (30:01), Richard Payne (30:07), Clare Mcgrath (31:33) and John Mcgrath (45:13).

In the Saturday morning parkruns, David Matthew finished at South Park in 18:31 followed by Steven Major (21:01), David Whittle (22:03), Phil Rutter (22:36), Stuart Masterman (23:49), Paul Reid (24:56), Ian Hart (26:33), Julie Bell (26:36), Helen Clarke (27:05), Lisa Bowerbank (27:47), Gill Colling (27:54), David Stewart (27:58), Danny Gordon (28:05), Bryan Dale (28:26), Mark Trowles (28:28), Michael King (28:40), Ian Hamond (29:11), Fred Tennant (29:16), Angela Taylor (29:20), Chris Land (30:17), Jes Smith (30:22), Emma Joyeux (31:00), Rachel Maddison (33:02), Gary Read (33:02), Rachel Grayson (34:06), Dawn Raper (35:48) and Lee Morris (36:01).

At Flatts Lane, Dave Jones finished in 20:16 along with Rebecca Bowes in 29:35, at Northallerton, Helen Clark and Emily Beaumont ran there in 28:16 and 28:17 respectively, at Sedgefield, Dave Thompson finished in 24:15 with Mark Blewitt in 29:44, Rebecca Dodd did the Durham run in 35:38 while at Albert Park, Bethany Symonds and Judith Russell ran there in 35:19 and 35:29 respectively. Further afield, Michelle Scruby did the Blackpool run in 31:20 and Peter Rowley ran at Fletcher Moss in 27:02.
