The spring marathon season came to a close at the weekend as several Quakers headed north of the border.

Up in Edinburgh, four took part in the marathon distance, Tom Chapman completing the 26.2 miles in 3:39:07 along with Tim Archer (3:46:12), Claire Chapman (4:14:09) and Barbra Barker (4:59:10). Taking place prior was the half marathon event in which Diane Vaughan finished in 1:40:39 followed by Dave Murphy (1:47:08), Jennifer Hardy (1:59:15), Richard Hughes (2:09:05), Mary Macivor (2:25:22), Lena Rusa (2:32:06), Mark Ladyman (2:35:12) and Nikki Arkley (3:12:10).

The latest 10K league race took place at the village of Melmerby near Ripon. Paul Dalton completed the undulating countryside route in tenth place overall in 36:45 (and second in his age category) followed by Dave Jones (40:00), David Matthew (40:31, PB), Andrew Vernon (41:06), Rob Dent (41:20), Corey Horn (42:08), Rebecca Howard (43:29), Chris Minto (43:49), Rob Gillham (46:13), Lloyd Ashby (48:26, PB), Ian Hart (49:04), Sandra Martin (51:38), Graham Park (51:43), Rebecca Bowes (56:33), Gemma Eddy (1:00:10), Bex Stirland (1:02:35), Phil Clarke (1:07:51) and Ian Scott (1:09:20).

Taking place just down the road at Northallerton was the latest championship event. Karen Garfield finished the 10K distance in 52:12 along with Julie Whinn (52:43), Robert Kirby (56:47), Michael King (1:01:54), Kelly Smith (1:05:17), Helen Whiting (1:06:38), Paul Hutchinson (1:07:57), Helen Spaven (1:09:15) and Tina Corah (1:09:22).

David Thompson was out on the fells for the Hadrian Hundred, a 101 mile event starting at Hexham and taking in Cross Fell and Highcup Nick. On a wet and foggy route taking in over 14,000 feet, and which saw half the field not finish, he came home in 31 hours 28 minutes.

A handful of runners were also out during the week as well. Paul Roberts was up at the Masters Track and Field event at Monkton, setting a new club record in the 100m by clocking 14.1s.

The second Tees Trail Summer 5K race took place over at Flatts Lane, where David Matthew completed the route in 21:24 along with Stuart Hardcastle in 25:30 and Abbie Hull in 28:31.

Two headed over to the Roseberry Romp, a 5 mile race which took in a climb to the summit of Roseberry topping itself. Richard Hughes finished in 1:02:24 with Rebecca Dodd in 1:09:44.

Nicola Wells was the sole Quaker at the George Ogle Memorial Race at Gateshead, completing the 5.5 mile multi-terrain route along parts of the Derwent Line in 44:17.

Down in the capital, Diane Vaughan ran in the Hyde Park 5K, finishing the distance as the second female overall in 22:23 and first in her age category.

In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dawn Richardson finished at South Park in 20:01 followed by Steve Snook (21:47), David Whittle (22:37), Andrew Vernon (22:42), David Willis (22:53), Ed Griffiths (24:00), Ian Hart (24:03), Thomas Gannaway (24:11), Sue Woodcock (24:58), Ginny Gannaway (25:13), Elizabeth Kennedy (26:10), Danny Gordon (26:43), Julie Bell (27:07), Jo Meynell (27:33), Ashleigh Atkinson (28:10), Brian Dixon (28:30), Martin Mcgregor (28:34), David Stewart (30:08), Philippa Rayner (30:46), Hazel Commane (31:31), Chris Land (32:19), Mark Trowles (34:00), Lisa Johnstone (35:09), Lee Morris (35:10), Patrick Robson (35:10), Ian Scott (37:49), Linda Gossage (39:24), Gemma Marshall-Moore (56:57) and Sarah Watson (56:57).

At Sedgefield, Stuart Hardcastle finished in 22:13 along with Wendy Colling (24:19), Lewis Boshier (26:32), Michelle Boshier (26:32), Richard Payne (28:17), Sally Watson (39:52) and Claire Norman (41:12) while at the Marshall Drive run, Louise Trainor finished in 22:22 followed by David Todd (22:35), Phil Rutter (22:42) and Gill Colling (29:48). Paul Dalton ran at Hackworth in 19:04, Stephen Moore did the Albert Park run in 25:16 while at Catterick, Phil Clarke and Naomi Dixon ran there in 29:01 and 39:07 respectively. Anthony Corbett did the Brighouse run in 25:49, Helen Spaven ran at New Earswick in 30:45, and at Bushy Park, Dawn Raper and Wendy Thompson finished there in 36:49 and 36:55 respectively.
