Press Report w/e 12/08/2018

There was pretty much just one race on the calendar at the weekend, as a club record turnout of black and white vests descended on the home 10K race.

166 runners crossed the finish line, some of whom were attempting the distance for the first time. Several runners set new personal bests on the day, while our first three female runners claimed second place in the team prize, with one of them also setting a new club record as well.

The fact that most runners did the home race meant very few others were elsewhere at the weekend. Three had headed up to the Gateshead Trail 10K the previous day, which took place around the Derwent Walk Country Park. Helen Spaven covered the distance in 59:13 along with Susan Rigg (1:06:57) and Terri Hankinson (1:10:59).

The only others to venture outside the town were Annette Clarke, Charlie Bogg and Dave Thompson who travelled down to the Derbyshire Dales for the Long Tour of Bradwell. Despite a few navigation errors along the way, the trio completed the 37 mile route, which took in 6,700 feet of climb in 9 hours 37 minutes.
