The calm before the storm saw only a handful of runners out last week, though three of them did come home with medals.

Gary Read & Rachel Maddison add a touch more black and white to the Quaker takeover at South Park

Michael Joyeux finished the Trentham 10K, near Stoke-in Trent, in third place overall in 34:43, and as the race incorporated the British Masters 10km Championship, he took home the gold medal for coming first in his age category.

Also taking home some honours last week were track captains Lindsey Lester and Paul Roberts. In the sixth and final race of this year’s North East Masters track meets, Paul ran the 200m in 30.2s and the 800m in 2:44.7. As a result of their performances over the season, Lindsey finished first in her age group in the Grand Prix League, with Paul coming second in his.

The latest event in the Hardmoors trail series took place around the village of Rosedale. Karen Dove was the sole runner in the marathon distance, finishing in 9:39:55, while in the half marathon event, Phil Rutter went round in 2:57:25 along with Andrew Jordan (3:42:03), Gill Colling (3:49:45), Anthony & April Corbett (3:54:01) and Nicky Jordan (4:35:40).

Adrian Gooding was the sole Quaker down at the York 10K, finishing the route from the racecourse to the city and back again in 44:45.

In the Saturday morning parkruns, South Park saw the annual Quakers takeover, where all the volunteer roles were filled by members. At Sedgefield, Dave Thompson finished in 23:09 along with Mark Blewitt (27:07), Sandra Cass (27:37) and Diane Lockhart (30:06), while at Catterick, Paul Dalton ran there in 18:28 with Abbie Hull (24:53) and Sarah Wilson (26:43). Gareth Kyle and Mark Trowles ran at Albert Park in 20:32 and 26:04 respectively, Adrian Cottam did the Hartlepool run in 19:45, Peter Commane completed the Northallerton run in 21:05, Anthony Corbett ran at Cotsford Fields in 25:15, while at Tees Barrage, Emily Beaumont finished in 35:50.

Further afield, Malcolm and Carolyn Hewitson ran at Didcot in 24:40 and 37:04 respectively, David Ledgerwood did the Glasgow Springburn run in 24:39, Helen Spaven ran at Heslington in 26:46, Tom and Claire Chapman completed the Blackpool run in 22:07 and 27:19 respectively, while down at Eastbourne, Alec Cinamon ran there in 31:57.
