Once again Quakers were faced with less than ideal running conditions, especially for those who were in for the long haul on Saturday.
This year’s Lyke Wake Challenge took place, which saw five of our runners braving the hot weather to cover the 42 miles from Osmotherley to Ravenscar. Tom and Claire Chapman finished together in 9 hours 28 minutes, followed by Rebecca Bowes (9 hours 39 minutes), Jamie Norman (11 hours 17 minutes) and Emily Beaumont (11 hours 55 minutes). The event also saw several members involved on the day, both with the organisation, and manning all the checkpoints along the route.
The weather was just as hot the next day for the latest 10K league race, held around the village of Burton Leonard, near Ripon. Paul Dalton completed the undulating multi-terrain route in 41:56 followed by Brian Martin (43:16 and second in his age category), Rob Dent (45:47), Andrew Vernon (46:33), Mike Brown (48:28), Rob Gillham (53:21), Andrew Dixon (59:07), Sandra Martin (59:47), Juliette Mclaren (1:00:37), David Ledgerwood (1:01:30), Jo Dickinson (1:05:41), Darren Alderson (1:06:50), Phill Johnston (1:10:44), Chris Land (1:11:56), Sarah Watson (1:12:28), Lisa Alderson (1:12:55), Terri Hankinson (1:19:18), Clare Dixon (1:19:19) and Dawn Johnston (1:23:12).
Closer to home, the Darlington Trail 10K race took place at South Park where Neil Gooding completed the three lap route in 40:19 (and in sixth place overall), along with Julie Russell (48:34), Lisa Reeve (53:39), Karen Dove (1:12:46) and Fiona Dixon (1:12:49).
Also taking place at the same time was the Ray Harrison 10K down the road at Billingham; Jamie Pratt finishing the route in 53:16 along with Janet Bowlby (54:44), Michelle Scruby (1:03:05) and Claire Norman (1:04:42).
Grainne Duffy was the sole Quaker at the Hexham half marathon, completing the 13.1 mile route in a new personal best of 2:23:13.
There had been plenty of action earlier in the week as well. Up at Sunderland, Diane Vaughan and Richard Hughes took part in the 5K race there, completing the two-lap route in 21:56 and 28:13 respectively.
The fourth event of the Tees Trail Summer 5K series was held over at Preston Park, where Abbie Hull completed the two-lap route there in 26:28, with Matt Jackson in 29:19.
The final event of this year’s NYSD track and field series took place over at Middlebsrough, which saw another six club records being set. Rebecca Dodd clocked 3:39.8 in the 800m (CR), and also running 16.2s in the 100m, while in the 5000m, Luke Minall covered the 12.5 laps of the track in 20:42. Out on the field, Rebecca Dodd threw 21.76m in the hammer (CR), 7.30m in the shot (CR) and landed 3.30m in the long jump (CR). Nicola Arkley also set new records on the night, throwing 16.66m in the hammer (CR), 5.96m in the shot (CR) and landing 2.36m in the long jump.
In the Saturday morning parkruns, Marc Ellis finished at South Park in 18:19 followed by Dave Jones (19:46), James Atkinson (20:02), Chris Minto (20:15), Adrian Cottam (20:55), Fred Tennant (23:04), David Todd (23:10), Graham Park (24:27), Gary Read (24:59), Mark Trowles (25:28), Nikki Thompson (25:53), Julie Bell (27:41), Stuart Masterman (27:48), Michael King (30:10), Ally Sanderson (31:15), Sarah Bayles (32:24), Anthony Rochester (33:53), Rachel Grayson (33:57), Gary Birchall (34:34), Peter Cowan (35:22), Ruth Middleton (35:36) and Michelle Scruby (44:08).
At Albert Park, Paul Dalton finished in 19:41 along with Dan Rowlands (23:02), John Mcgrath (24:55), Mike Watson (25:11), Hannah Alderson (27:21), Kathryn Plant (27:52), Margaret Hunter (29:30), Jo Dickinson (32:09), David Ledgerwood (32:09), Dawn Johnston (34:42), Phill Johnston (34:43), Naomi Dixon (35:45) and Clare Mcgrath (36:46). At Hartlepool, Corey Horn finished in 19:38 followed by Adrian Colbourne (21:37), Jamie Pratt (24:05) and Paul Hutchinson (25:16), Malcolm Hewitson did the Preston run in 25:07, Gemma Marshall and Olly Moore did the Windy Nook run in 38:27 and 38:28 respectively, while at Sedgefield, Lewis Boshier finished in 26:45 along with Michelle Boshier (26:46) and Gill Wallis (34:13).
Overseas Paul Ryan did the Crissy Field run in San Francisco in 34:01, while Wendy Thompson completed the De Montsouris run in Paris in 36:45.
