Quakers were scattered across the country last weekend with the black and white appearing over a wide range of locations, distances and terrains.
With last Friday being the ninth of June, several runners headed up to Newcastle for this year’s Blaydon race. First home for the club over the 5.7 mile distance along the Scottswood road was James Atkinson in 36:30 followed by Dan Rowlands (39:12), Brian Mclaren (39:34), Phil Rutter (39:17), Nicola Wells (40:16), Rob Gillham (41:18), Diane Vaughan (41:28), Ed Griffiths (41:07), Steven Major (41:20), Andrew Walker (41:54), Jamie Pratt (44:57), Anna Hardy (46:12), Richard Hughes (46:20), Andrew Dixon (47:11), Juliette Mclaren (47:51), Margaret Hunter (49:45), Pamela Barrass (49:58, PB), Robert Kirby (46:38), Neal Harper (50:58), Andy Whittam (51:49), Gill Colling (51:45), Lena Rusa (1:04:11) and Linda Harrington (1:11:59).
Over on the coast at Marske, at a fairly windy Everyone Active 10K, Michael Joyeux crossed the line in second place in 33:20 followed by Brian Martin (39:17 and first in his age category), Chris Minto (41:57), Brian Mclaren (44:53), Daniel Orton (46:05), Stephen Moore (49:51), Jamie Pratt (50:58), Michelle Boshier (52:43), David Ledgerwood (53:59), Juliette Mclaren (55:15), Tracey Plaskitt (57:16), Michelle Scruby (57:22, PB and third in her age category), James Simpson (1:00:40), Clare Stradling (1:00:49) and Gary Read (1:08:05).
Wednesday evening had seen three Quakers out in various locations. At the 10 mile race in Otley, West Yorkshire, Tom Chapman completed the distance in 1:24:12, while down in Peterborough, David Todd ran in the 5K Grand Prix race in 20:20. Off road, Nick Watson did the Ossy Oiks fell race, finishing the 5.3 mile route in Arncliffe Woods in 49:18.
Three more runners also headed off-road at the weekend. At Settle, North Yorkshire, David Thompson completed the hilly 23 mile Settle Saunter in 4 hours 55 minutes, while over in the Lake District, Bridget Stewart ran the Keswick Mountain Festival 5K trail race in 37:45. Near Blackburn, Peter Rowley took part in the Edgeworth Reservoirs 10K Challenge, finishing the undulating trail race around two reservoirs in 55.07.
In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dave Jones finished at South Park in 18:18 followed by Adrian Cottam (20:09), Gary Read (20:58), Luke Minall (21:06), Fred Tennant (21:09), Louise Trainor (22:05), Andrew Vernon (22:53 in his 100th parkrun), Mark Robinson (22:57), Tom Chapman (23:07), Peter Rowley (23:49), Stuart Masterman (24:28), David Ptak (25:01), Iain Clyde (27:00), Julie Bell (27:11), Darren Alderson (27:16), Mark Trowles (27:19), Brian Dixon (27:28), Danny Gordon (27:31), Chris Land (28:08), Jo Dickinson (29:28), Phill Johnston (29:31), Barbra Barker (29:36), Gemma Marshall (30:51), Olly Moore (30:51), Lisa Alderson (33:52) and Lucy Bendle (33:52).
At Sedgefield, Gareth Kyle finished in 20:59 along with Richard Payne (26:27), Wendy Colling (26:55), Jeff Marriott (26:59), Julie Whinn (27:05), Sandra Cass (27:31) and John Whinn (29:20), while at Albert Park, Kyle Cook was first across the line there in 17:08, with Marc Ellis in 18:47. At Stewart Park, Mike Brown and Caroline Moses ran there in 21:08 and 27:57 respectively, at Hackworth, Lewis Boshier finished in 25:35 along with Michelle Boshier (26:05) and Sally Watson (35:58), while at Newcastle Phil Rutter did the run there in 22:20, with Gill Colling in 29:56. Further afield, Lisa Jenkins ran at Keswick in 30:02, Darryn Wood did the run at Halifax in 44:42, while Karen Dove completed the run at Belton House, Grantham in 32:46.
